Home Cookin'

We're exhilarated when they're playing well and we're disgusted when they are not. I have not been high on Mickey Callaway and I'm always skeptical this franchise can ever sustain success with the Wilpons at the owning helm. This team creates such a bipolar emotional swing, there is never a dull moment.

Thing is, the 2019 New York Mets are bucking the trend and playing well at home. They're just not playing well, and that is an understatement, on the road. They are currently 7 games over at Citi Field with a 17-10 record but 9 games under on the road at 13-22. That right there is the difference in the season. The majority of the games we have complained about them blowing have been the bullpen's inability on the road to stave off their opposition's 0wn home cookin'. Just a 5 game swing and they would be a .500 road team. It all is obviously hypothetical, but that's how thin the difference is between them being a winning ballclub and 2 games under .500. I'm sure all us fans can list 5 games we know the Mets could have held onto in other's people's ballparks. Tighten that up, and we're not as fed up as we have been.

Now, with the Rockies on the way in, it is time to plow forward and make sure June is not even remotely close to the miserable 5-21 it was last year. I still believe this team is far better than the 2018 squad was but they have their work cut out for them this month with the majority of the clubs vying for a playoff spot, including the Yankees at the stadium on Monday and Tuesday. I'm sure all Mets fans are looking forward to THAT potential trolling. Buckle up, Buckaroos.

Before I go, thanks once more to Taryn "The Coop" Cooper for joining us on the 27th episode of A Metsian Podcast last night!

Returning the Favor

It thrills me beyond belief that the Mets swept the Colorado Rockies after losing 8 straight to them at Citi Field (not to mention after they got swept out in Colorado, not counting that makeup game we won.)

The last time the Rockies won a game at Citi Field was Collin McHugh's Major League Debut, where he took a no-decision in the Mets 1-0 loss.

He was traded for Eric Young, Jr.

The Mets have clearly needed to win A LOT MORE at home, and it looked to be a thrilling week out in Flushing. It's not even they needed to win more....they needed to stop being 10 GAMES UNDER at home. They need to feed off the energy returning, and this series was a prime example of what it should feel like for the fan and the team at Citi Field.

Shall we take a quick look at some of the highlights?

Those uniforms are so awesome.

Hey, eh, how bout Matt Harvey's first career Shutout?

And how bout a lil pitching and small ball to get the job done?

Oh...It looks like that last game that finished the sweep with a 2-1 score does not have any embedding. Yeah, it wasn't as Baller as those last two highlight reels, but still a solid, solid win (and in those lovely blue unis with the Orange and Blue hat, too.)

It's ok, though. You all know where to find the highlights if you're craving them.

Now, it's time for a series in Phoenix. Keep it up, Metsies.

OH! I guess I can't leave this portion of the post without talking about Wilmer Flores...

AWESOME JOB IN YOUR FIRST SERIES, WILMER.

Anyway, before I embed this week's Rising Apple Report, where Andrew Battifarano and Jason Mast made their Report debuts, I point you to this link as well, where Larry King will once again join me on the Bedford & Sullivan Podcast, today at 1:30PM ET, to discuss an average Brooklyn summer day for lil Larry in the late 1930's, the conversations in the borough streets at that time, more stories from the seats of Ebbets Field, and why Bobby Thompson's "Shot Heard 'Round the World" trumps all others as the most devastating walk-off home run in the history of baseball.

Make sure to tune in at 1:30PM ET.

What a Difference a Year Makes & Julian's Met

On April 17, 2012, the Colorado Rockies played the San Diego Padres in 66 degree weather.

Though it is not quite a year yet, I was in Denver for the last 2 games of the Mets visit there, chronicled in Mile High Mr. Met Parts I and II (which means I missed the 9 to 16 Scott Hairston-Cycle loss, but had an interesting time tuning in.) That Sunday, April 29, 2012, I wore a thermal as the R.A. Dickey Throwback undershirt, learning soon in the bleacher sun that it was not needed.

That on the right is the picture my Dad, who lives out there, sent to me earlier today.

We just learned that the Mets will once again play a doubleheader in Colorado. Basically, after the debacle that was yesterday, you take this entire series with a grain of salt, and look forward to the Mets getting back to their regularly scheduled program (or look forward to the fates allowing them to do so...)

Am I making excuses for them? No.

BUT THIS IS REEEEAAALLLLY WACKY.

I look forward to the Mets coming home this weekend, for the Rising Apple crew, many of us who have not met each other yet, are heading out to the ballgame on Saturday.

...Currently, though, there is a 70% chance of rain, and ironically, that's probably the snow system...

I just found out that this week's Julian's Met's last season was 1969 when he was 36 years old.

Wild.

Enjoy...(sigh)....another off-night...

That was REALLY wacky, you guys...

I'm not really sure if I've EVER experienced what all us Met fans have experienced since Friday...

Yesterday (I'm sorry, now TWO days ago...) we were all unfortunately thrown off course by the chilling events at the end of the Boston Marathon course, but with somber hearts and our thoughts with those directly affected, we march forth.

Over 70 hours went by without a Metsian pitch, and by the end of the day, we're unfortunately with 2 more losses on our 2013 record.

Here's a recap of the 1st game I wrote on Rising Apple, and here is Danny Abriano's Rising Apple recap of the monstrosity we just witnessed.

I'm going to sleep.

...Or one more episode of Mad Men...

...or just sleep.

Whatever I do, more Mets to discuss tomorrow (especially if there's YET AGAIN a postponed game...)

You. Have. GOT. To. Be. Kidding. Me.

Celebrate the Holiday and Tonight's Podcast

Sure..Sure...Sure...Happy Tax Day (and BEST of luck.)

But when I think of April 15th, taxes are really that last thought that passes through my head.

Over on Rising Apple, I review the film 42 and reflect on what Jackie Robinson means to our society.

Please check it out.

At 6:30 PM EST, myself and new Site Editor Danny Abriano (Congrats, Danny) will wrap up the shorter-than-initially-scheduled Twins series, and preview the Rockies series with Hayden Kane of Fansided's Rox Pile (it's also another series where it will snow all day the first day, according to my Dad who currently lives out in Denver and will be witnessing baseball live tonight if they end up playing it.)

So, make sure you tune in at 6:30PM EST for the latest edition of the Rising Apple Report!

Here's the Song of the Day.
