Mets Legacy Video of the Day - Opening Day 1982

The type of life and world we all live in allows us to randomly come across people's VCR recordings of either Kiner's Korner, or Joe Torre getting fired (with 1981 commercials) or the following video of a couple people's journey to, through, and after Opening Day of 1982.

Though we do have a Spring Training Mets Game to listen to on 660 this evening at 7pm EST (I should also get used to writing 101.9...) Opening Day is right around the corner, with the man who is starting tonight taking the ball.

More Home Videos to come...

Happy Friday everyone.

Mets Legacy Photo of the Day - Captain

For a recap of today's 3-2 loss to the Cardinals, head over to Rising Apple.

As I'm sure most of you are aware, David Wright was named the 4th official captain in the History of the New York Mets today. Much to my pleasure, he has stated his uniform will stay as is (no C.)

Today's Mets Legacy Photo is of another NY National League Captain (who also didn't need to wear the C.)

WBC, Podcast & An Opening Day Mets Legacy (via Mets Police)

All I can say about the WBC Championship is that everybody's pitching was great, but PR's starter didn't have it in the 1st. The Dominican Republic deserves to wear the crown.

More on the WBC later in the week, as I found some awesome highlights of the qualifying round with Great Britain, Germany and others that missed the cut. I'll feature some of my favorite highlights from the entire tournament as well.

Tonight at 6:30PM EST, myself, Rich and Mike will preview the Braves and the Phillies with Tomahawk Take and That Ball's Outta Here, respectively. We will also have the latest up-to-the-minute news and notes regarding the Mets (there will be an untelevised Astros-Mets game going on as we broadcast, and I will keep gameday open.)

Today's Opening Day Mets Legacy comes to us via Mets Police circa 2001.

On the WBC Semi-Finals & Another Opening Day Mets Legacy - The First Batter, The First Out

It was a fun ride for The Kingdom of the Netherlands, but alas, The Dominicans were too much this time for the Dutch, who ousted DR in the 1st round of 2009. The game was tight for a while, but the Dutch could never respond offensively after grabbing a 1st inning run without the benefit of a hit. After the Dominicans scored 4 runs in the middle innings, it only felt like a matter of time before the bullpen would lock it down.

And Tony Peña made quite the last minute move putting Toronto Blue Jays farmhand Moises Sierra into left field.

Now, they take on a Puerto Rican team who seems determined as ever, with that guy named Yadier, and an Angel Pagan who apparently needed to leave the Mets to become a Champion-caliber player who keeps making iconic catches in San Francisco's Center Field.

They also caught a Japanese team who suddenly lost their overly-preached fundamentals at a crucial part of the game.

A Caribbean Championship game is set up.

Tonight at 8PM EST in San Francisco, MLB Network will broadcast the final game of the 2013 World Baseball Classic: a single-elimination game that will crown either The Dominican Republic or Puerto Rico baseball champions of the World.

These games have not disappointed, and I don't see tonight's win-or-go-home game being any different.

Tune in all.

Today's Mets Legacy Photo brings us back to only a year ago.

Mets Legacy Photo of the Day - The Opening Day Parade

For a recap of today's 3-2 win over the Cardinals (including Matt Harvey's strong start and Travis d'Arnaud productively still in Major League Camp), head over to Rising Apple.

I am currently editing the video for this past Thursday's Book Event at the Bergino Baseball Clubhouse with Ira Berkow, Author of Summers at Shea. Having started the book this weekend, he is clearly a fantastic storyteller and I am happy to have these stories complemented with his live tellings of them. I look forward to sharing some of the evening with you soon.

With Opening Day on it's way, Today's Mets Legacy Photo take us to the 1910's at Ebbets Field in April.

Podcast & Mets Legacy Photo of the Day - Bob, Elliot & Bagels

Tonight on The Rising Apple Report, I will join host Matt Musico and Michael Lecolant for the piping-hot half-hour on NY Mets talk. This week's topics will include whether the WBC is worth it, what's going on with Johan and the Mets, and Jordany's cup check. And of course, all the latest up-to-the-minute Spring Training news. So, make sure you tune in at 6:30 PM EST for the latest edition of the Rising Apple Report!

Last night, Julian (of Julian's Mets), his family and I were delighted to watch a reading of a new Hilda Chester musical at the St. Peter's Church in the Citigroup Center on Lex and 54th.  With the show still in development, there isn't too much of a plug I can give it (except that everyone should keep their eyes peeled for it.) There was, however, plenty of old-timers in the audience, including the crew in today's Mets Legacy Photo of the Day.

Bob Goldberg, in the Dodger uni, remembers the joys of being apart of the Ebbets Field crowd...and the despair he and others felt when they got up and left. Elliot Ames, on the right, remembers the ecstasy he felt when Bobby Thompson helped "The Giants win the Pennant!"

And Bagels...well, he's part of "The New Breed." (Though both Bob and Elliot are now Mets fans as well.)

Tune into the podcast, everyone.
(and make sure you check back in here after 7
for this week's Julian's Met.)

I just found this video while looking for an link/example of "The New Breed."

Mets (fan) Legacy Photo of the Day - Hilda

There was no Mets action today, but over at Rising Apple, Michael Lecolant explores the recently tumultuous history of the Mets and their AAA affiliates.

Tonight, I will be going to a reading of a play about Hilda Chester. Hilda was a huge Brooklyn Dodger fan and actually has an annual award named after herself.

Here's to you, Hilda.

A Mets Legacy Photo of the Shabbos - The Left Arm of God

For a recap of today's 3-2 loss in Lakeland, check out Rising Apple.

I was in the neighborhood of the Bergino Baseball Clubhouse this afternoon, and there were two Hasidim talking to Jay. One of them mentioned they "used" to be a Mets fan, but then clarified that he used to follow them a lot heavier than he does now. One of them then asked me if I would like to wear the Tefillin. Having not prayed in a while, for one, and having not worn the tefillin in a while, I obliged.

So, as a tribute to my fellow Jewish brethren, here is all of our favorite Southpaw.

For all of you staying in this evening, or for those going out to where there will be sports on, make sure you tune in for our favorite Knuckler, R.A. Dickey (a man who doesn't celebrate the Sabbath till Sunday) taking the mound for USA v Mexico at 9PM EST on MLB Network.

Mets Legacy Painting of the Day - The Era in Technicolor

For a recap of today's 4-0 Mets win (with a "ridiculous" Matt Harvey) head over to Rising Apple for Danny Abriano's recap.

Today's Mets Photo is a painting.

I went searching for whoever Bhubert is, but couldn't find anything.

The Evening's Podcast & Today's Mets Legacy

Tonight on The Rising Apple Report, I will host once again with staff writers Dan Haefeli and Danny Abriano joining me to discuss everything from the leadership skills of anybody not named David Wright to how awful of an idea it is to have Marlon Byrd in centerfield. And we will also discuss Danny's post from the other day about his grandfather, also getting into all of our Metsian roots.

That's 6:30 PM EST tonight. Don't miss it.

(And don't forget to check out Julian's Met of the Week immediately after the podcast at 7:00PM.)

The First Mets Legacy Photo of the Day

Just now, while looking through an old collection of photos of the Giants and Dodgers (and some early Mets) I decided to start a new segment here at Converted Mets Fan called the Mets Legacy Photo of the Day. I may or may not make this a daily occurrence, but I have enough to certainly post a few of them a week.

The first one comes to us from Life Magazine; A photo of the left field stands of Ebbets Field, reminiscent of Citi Field in the Septembers.
