Everything about this picture is Amazin': The bunting (it's Opening Day, the best day of the year); the environs (the Polo Grounds, getting one more season in the sun); the radio station (WABC, about to take over NYC with the biggest hits and the biggest mouth -- Howard Cosell -- on pre and postgame with Ralph Branca); and the Duke himself (36 going on 54, representing the Mets' youth movement by giving the fans something familiar to cheer while the kids find themselves). It's 1963 and it's as perfect as 111 losses could be.
