Well, What Can You Say?

Apparently, a lot.

Last night, host Mike Lecolant, guest Sharon Chapman and myself discussed the opening series (and certain digressions) on the Rising Apple Report's first ever extended episodes, 'cause we can do that sort of thing now.

Whether it was 1st base, the bullpen, shortstop, the young down-on-the-farm starters, the Vintage Baseball games Mr. Lecolant will be watching in Long Island this weekend, Brooklyn, or where the 1999 and 2000 teams rank all-time in Mets history, we covered a lot in the 90 minutes we spent on-air.

The baseball season didn't start out the way we had hoped. They seem in disarray, lethargic, and wound way too tight. Still, I am THRILLED baseball is back and I look forward to possibly taking in a couple of games this weekend, definitely 1 game on Sunday.

Regarding Jhonny Peralta, I Yield the Floor To Rising Apple

By now, it is well-known amongst the Mets fan base circle...at least the ones who monitor the Hot Stove at obsessive levels...that the Mets met with shortstop free agent Jhonny Peralta at the GM meetings, which is a rare thing to do at the annual November event. Generally speaking, these meetings are exclusively executives, and it helps lay the groundwork for potential deals that could take place either before or during the Winter Meetings in December. When you're coming off a 50-game suspension, however, it makes sense to be as active as early as you can.

Mike Lecolant of Brooklyn Trolley Blogger and a fellow Rising Apple writer says everything perfectly about why that number would be outlandish for the Mets to pay, and also quotes a well-informed Rising Apple reader. Mets (fan) Legacy Photo of the Day - Hilda

There was no Mets action today, but over at Rising Apple, Michael Lecolant explores the recently tumultuous history of the Mets and their AAA affiliates.


Tonight, I will be going to a reading of a play about Hilda Chester. Hilda was a huge Brooklyn Dodger fan and actually has an annual award named after herself.

A Brick 35 Years in the Making and the Random Song of the Day

Last night, I enjoyed a game with Matt Musico and Michael Lecolant of Rising Apple. On the way out of the Rotunda, Michael said he had a brick somewhere "over there", which is the only negative one in a sea of positives. He told us the story as we looked for the red one.

One night, he was in a bitter mood about the Mets, and his wife asked him what he wanted his brick to say. "1977 still hurts." A couple weeks later, he asked her if she sent the brick request in already. She said, "Yeah, of course." This made him laugh, not having expected his brick, when he set out to get one, to actually say something like that. But it worked for him. 

Just to the left of the rotunda we looked, and simply couldn't find the brick. Then, I noticed a set of bricks further to the outside of the plaza, and said, "It's probably there." Sure enough, Matt found it, surrounded by bricks such as "Let's Go Mets!!!" and "Mets Fan through and through" was "1977 Still Hurts; Michael Lecolant."

Michael is a Mets fan through and through as well, and isn't afraid to let them know when they broke his and everyone's heart.

(I don't know why I didn't take a picture of the brick. Just look for it; you've been given directions on where to find it.)

A favorite of mine I came across while searching was "If you build it, the Mets will win!!!!"
