When In Rome...

What's funny about when I wrote that headline was that I didn't even write it thinking about how the Yankees like to view themselves and their ballpark as, "Romanesque..."

But it's true. The Mets maximized return while still having some issues with their pitching. 10 walks last night and they gave up 7 runs in each game. Tanaka and Citi Field could spell doom for the suddenly potent Mets offense. Or they could keep getting solid rips at the ball, HR or not. Though it's not like the depleted-and-relatively-empty-to-begin-with Yankee pitching is anything like what Tanaka can do.

What's cool about last night was that the Rangers, about an inning or so after Daniel Murphy all but sealed the victory with a right field upper deck pole shot, wrapped up a miraculous comeback, after being down 3-1 in the series, and now get a chance to play for the conference championship. With less attention being focused on the game as people dispersed from Yankee Stadium early, Met fans and Yankee fans alike watched and rooted for the Rangers to put the finishing touches on the series, all chanting "Let's go Rangers" on their way out.

So now, the series shifts to the Bay of Flushing, with players now needing to overcome its Great Wall. Stay within yourself, don't try to do too much, take it to the gaps, and the good swings will come.

I can't begin to tell you how pumped I am for Rafael Montero's debut tonight. The kid has great composure and can hit his spots as well as any young pitcher I've ever seen. Madduxesque....if I may say. Yankees generally have a hard time against ANY pitcher making his debut, so we'll see if that trend continues. Tonight should be very exciting. One way or the other, after seeing these last two games (ESPECIALLY with Monday night's epic finish) I don't know how anyone could say this has gotten old. This is all about New York City, and I love walking and biking around, taking in the sights of this town, while two NY teams duke it out. It is epic, and sets the bar that much higher for when they once more meet in the World Series.

Whenever that may be...

The Swing of Things

I'm gettin' back into it.

ACTUALLY, I'm swingin' a totally new...thing.

I am now a marketing coordinator at IDP Distribution, which distributes Samuel Goldwyn Films. Among plenty of other duties, I will be handling the majority of the Twitter and Facebook updates, keeping people posted on all the new material being released by Samuel Goldwyn Films, as well as reminding and/or educating of the long history the name Samuel Goldwyn has in this industry of moving pictures. 

Since interviewing for the gig, I've been carried away with taking a look at the legacy of the man, and have discovered not only all the amazing films the guy produced, but the fact that he had a way of saying things, much like our own Casey Stengel and Yogi Berra, which have since become referred to as "Goldwynisms."

Such as...

"If I could drop dead right now, I'd be the happiest man alive."   

"They stayed away in droves."

"Why did you do that? Every Tom, Dick and Harry is named Sam!" -- When a friend told him he named his son Sam.

 Well, the Mets fan has certainly stayed away in droves, but my boss isn't one of them.  He's got season tickets and has bobbleheads galore in his office.

We've got plenty of things on their way and plenty of things in our back catalog, and I look forward to helping to share them with the masses. But don't worry. This Converted Mets Site will not become a Samuel-Goldwyn-Selling-Hot-Bed. BUT do understand that I am legitimately excited to help share the Samuel Goldwyn brand. As the fellow used to say...

"If I were in this business only for the business, I wouldn't be in this business."

Reviewing Your Metsian Weekend

On Saturday, the Mets staged a nice lil Spring comeback, down 7-3 to lock up an 8-8 tie (nobody cared to play the 10th.) Highlights from this include Matt Harvey's sharp outing, Cowgill and Ruben at the top of the lineup, good showing by the bullpen, The Duda's center field bomb and Brian Bixler's game-tying 2-run jack. Bixler is a very interesting candidate for backup infielder and has certainly performed better than others in the running, such as Brandom Hicks. Though Omar Quintanilla is being very Omar Quintanilla-ish (he is a Mets Legend, after all.) Anyway, the details are always awesome to run through, so check out Matt Musico's recap over at Rising Apple.

Yesterday, the Mets did not have as good of a showing, as they gave up a 4-0 lead to lose to the Marlins 6-4. I had my first "Oh, great" superstitious moment of the year, if you will, for I tuned into the WFAN broadcast with a 4-2 lead only to pretty much instantly hear that lead go to the wayside. Still, it was very nice to hear the voices of Josh Lewin, Eddie C. (and even Duquette.) I like Lewin. I think he fits in nicely next to Howie. He doesn't feel like an outsider the way Wayne Hagan did to me and other fans, though I didn't mind him. Lewin has his own distinct voice and style, and it seems to match up well with the harmony that is Mets Broadcasting. Anyway, highlights include Gee's fine outing, John Buck's 3-run shot and Nieuwenhuis's knee injury,  the severity of which is unknown. Interesting tidbits about some prospects in this game as well, so once again check out Musico's recap over at Rising Apple.

David Wright took off for the World Baseball Classic, which got underway this weekend with some fun matchups over in Asia. I know its slightly a polarizing thing, but as far as I'm concerned the concept is great and that translates on the field. Though they couldn't win a game this weekend, I had a fun time watching and rooting for the Brazilian team, which is managed by Barry Larkin. I also am rooting big time for the Netherlands, who unfortunately, after taking down Korea in the first game, could not beat Chinese Tapei, who already have 2 wins under their belt early on. Their fans, who packed the stands for the latter game in Taiwan, certainly know how to root for their Home Team. I'm pumped for these contests, and can't wait for the USA team to get going.

Sidenote: Though they did not make it past the qualifying round, how awesome is the Israeli baseball cap?

On December 14th, More Clarity Than Ever

What? You thought I was talking about the R.A. Dickey situation?

Yeah, right.

No, I'm talking about myself.

I'm don't really care much about all that trivial stuff going on.

I'm sorry, that was phrased incorrectly.

I care DEEPLY about all that stuff going on, and follow it throughout my days.

I just haven't wanted to write about it lately (on top of some technological difficulties on my end.)

You see, when I said I moved, I didn't say where I moved to.

Right now, if you want to get literal, I have most of my belongings in the basement of my mom's upstate house. Here, I have been living since the first of the month, on my own, going through my stuff and getting some writing done. I am inbetween jobs and inbetween places, with a family that cares deeply for my well being and is affording me the time (and space) to find myself. 

The isolation is a great opportunity to dive head first into certain creative endeavors, endeavors I know will help deeply in 2013 to turn screenwriting into my everyday profession, but I haven't gotten it nearly ramped up enough yet.

So, today, on December 14, 2012, when I would love to focus and write about everything Mets and baseball, I realize more than ever before I really have to just have to focus on myself.

So, enjoy your weekend everybody! I will be traveling back to the city this evening for some social gatherings, including Greg Prince's Book Release Party.

But after the fun... 
Some work must be done.
