Patiently Waiting

There is so much noise that goes on with this team. It's probably a catch-22, a "which came first? The chicken or the egg" when it comes to passing around blame. Is it the players? The Coaches? The owners? The Market they play in? One does not happen without the other, and the other does not happen without one. When you look at this market, there are at most 3, and at least 2, teams you can point to that don't seem like they are a parking lot circus filled with dysfunctionality. It can even be argued against those "functional" teams having their crap together, but the bottom line is they win.

And of course, that is the whole point. That is what it comes down to, and that's why some of us boo: because what we just saw wasn't winning. Forget the ones who boo Jason Bay on his way to the batter's box, not afterwards. Curtis Granderson receives a sound ovation on his way to the plate. We're as loud as ever cheering him to get that runner home from 2nd, and though I personally wouldn't boo him after his strikeout, other people think nothing of it when the former free agent is batting .136 (he has gotten it up to .208, leading the team with 25 walks, with 6 HR and 22 RBI as well...yes, with 56 Ks, but we knew that was coming, and the guy seems to have gotten his legs under him after signing with a new team and spending most of last year on the DL...but I digress...)

The point is, as loud as the boos are when you're not doing well, even louder are the cheers when you get that base hit, or have your back is against the wall with the bases loaded, 2 out and up 2 runs. We're there for you. You're family. No matter the distractions and the things that get on our nerves, we're there for you...well, at least the ones still coming to the ballpark, and the Mets are currently lucky they got those.

But cynicism aside, it's people like the Mets Fan Incarnate and Ben Rosenfield above in that Pittsburgh television freeze-frame that prove the last thing anyone within the organization should blame are the fans.

No matter the background noise, all we want is to see this team win, to see this team hold onto leads more often than not, and more often than lately.

So, do things more often the way you did things last night....other than the pace. You all have GOT to pick that up.

Sidenote: THIS happened last night, and it was awesome. Keep rapping, Fitty. And way to show off the uniform to the rest of the world. The best in the biz, if you ask me.

It's Over

I believe we are beginning to see the end of the Terry Collins era.

I almost didn't even WANT to write about the Mets 'cause I contain so much vitriol.

This past weekend, I have never seen the level of understanding amongst the fanbase that Terry is not fit to be manager of this ballclub. I have been saying for a very long time that Terry Collins should not be manager of this ballclub. I don't believe he will ever be able to lead a team to the playoffs. So, whether or not there's other things going on when it comes to the Juan Lagares situation, or anything involving the Mets, things that the public doesn't really have to know about or have any right to know. You're starting to see, at least in the public eye, a man becoming more delusional with the managerial decisions and becoming more and more defensive about it. And you know what? You've got a GM I'm growing more and more agitated with for not doing anything about it, and SIGNING the guy back up in the first place (I guess you could go all the way back to hiring him in the first place, but I get what Terry is and Sandy seems to as well, considering a 2-year deal is NOT a ringing endorsement.)

My faith in Sandy's judgement is waning because of the Terry Collins situation. He has clearly begun a grand foundation reconstruction with the minor leagues, and for that, I'm willing to accept that is Sandy Alderson's lasting legacy with the New York Mets. But I need to begin seeing better judgement with the Major League ballclub.

Our blood was boiling Friday night, when us Metsian nerds, myself and the Brooklyn Trolley Blogger Mike Lecolant, took to the airwaves post-game and vented our frustration on the Rising Apple Report. The sound bytes are as relevant today as they were on Friday night, and we'll spew even more sound bytes later this evening on a whole new episode of the Rising Apple Report.


Thank God for the off day. I don't want to see any of those guys today.

I'll think about the Mets...but I don't have to LIKE it.

It Doesn't Count, but It's Fun

Last night might be the first time I really cared about 2014 Mets baseball.

Clearly, I've been lacking when it comes to writing, watching, or even discussing the Mets. Even on the podcasts (one of which I'll embed down below) though I may ramble, I feel as if I cannot give a full opinion because of my lack of Metsian observation the past couple of months. Then again, I've picked up the general things that are being thrown down in the Metsosphere.

I went out of my way, however, to watch the highlights of yesterday's game, where Anthony Recker and the Mets, down 6-4 to the Braves in the 9th, won 7-6 on Recker's 3-run shot.

And then there's this gem, which is another reason Juan Lagares HAS to be starting in center:

Yeah, it's spring training. Yeah, nothing is counting towards the standings. But memories are still created. I mean, listen to that crowd when Recker hit the home run. Listen to the crowd AND Mr. Burkhardt and Keith. It's an early division match-up, and though it completely changes when the pages turn to April (well....this year, March 31...) there's still a lot of people with plenty to prove, making the juice flow a little more in the above match-up. Certainly some fun highlights to watch.

Another Meaningful Loss and the Random Song of the Day

This is unprecedented. I have combined yesterday's game recap, a game that not even nature could put out of its misery, with the Random Song of the Day. Normally, the song would be telling of what I feel about the game by the end of it. But I felt nothing (and I'm not about to put that song, "Nothing" from Chorus Line up here.)

I started the game 2 hours late (Kevin?! Is that you?!) And at some point, I started fast-forwarding, since it was currently raining and I wanted to see whether they'd make it to the 5th. They did. And they shut down play in the 7th. I thought it was for sure over. I fast-forwarded through the Dodgers-Giants game to get official confirmation that Flushing had been Flushed out. By the time they were ready to start play again, I was live.

Seriously? You umps don't want to go home already?

Jeurys Familia got a little experience failing in The Show. The only redeeming quality of them finishing that game. That is certainly meaningful.

And seeing all the die-hards still there. That's awesome. Reminded me of that San Diego game back in May.
